Unexpected. Part 1

I found out I was pregnant one month after D’s biological father and I split, which was around August. There was no man in my life at that point in time and I had no plan (or desire honestly) of being with another man anytime soon.

Fast forward 7 months.

I’m scrolling through Instagram (yes, it all started on social media) and I came across one of my brother’s friend’s post. In this post, “said friend” was standing next to a super attractive guy and I clicked the tag, went on his profile, and made it all the way back to year 2014. I figured there was no harm in liking a couple of pictures because I was 8 months pregnant, so I double tapped. If memory serves me correctly within a few hours I had TWO LIKES (One of which, I would like to add, was a maternity picture..whatttt!?)

And yes ladies and gents. He slid into the DMs. *(For my grandma, that means direct messages.)

He used the “Are you Ty Kelly’s sister?” card which was used my entire life, but still worked. After confirming I was in fact Ty Kelly’s sister and made it clear to him I was VERY pregnant, this guy still wanted to meet me at one of his slow pitch softball games (which my brother, sister in law, mom, dad, and “said friend” were ALL a part of).

So I found myself sitting on a bench, at a softball field, wearing black (my thought process was if I was wearing black I wouldn’t look 8 months pregnant, maybe just 4 months right?). My mom, brother and sister-in-law were playing in the game that night and trust me they were all anxiously awaiting his arrival as much as I was. Coincidentally enough, he was playing in right field and my mom was playing center. As a result, she was giving me reports like, “He seems like a nice guy!”, “He’s very respectful!”, before he had even said two words to me. After what seemed like days, he was up to bat and right before he went up to the plate, he turned around, looked at me and said, “Hi, I’m Nate!” and then walked away.

When the game was over, I tried so hard to wait for him to get off the field, but I had to pee SO BADLY! When I came back out, Nate was walking away and I didn’t even get to say goodbye. My mom walked over and as we were about to leave she grabbed me and said “I think he’s coming back this way!”. Nate felt around in his pockets, pretending like he had forgotten something, and headed back to the dugout just to say goodbye. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen, but also one of the sweetest.

The next day he gave me his number and asked me what I was doing Saturday night. I was so taken back, I looked at my mom and said “I think I’m about to be asked out on a date at 8 months pregnant.”
